On the @jewels_of_the_trade Instagram, we held a drawing for a custom diamond rug giveaway for participants who entered by following the page, liking the post, and commenting tagging 3 friends. It was SUCH a unique piece that I wanted to show you the custom process for this incredible work of art. Valued at $3,000, this rug was fabricated using cut-and-inlay techniques with US made material from Fabrica and Masland.
The idea started as a design in Photoshop.
Once we had a design in mind, we got to pick out materials from the binders. There are SO many colors of carpet! Holy smokes. It was a lot of fun!
Cut-and-inlay, by the way, is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a LOT of work.
Once the pieces were put together, the design still had to be carved to give the art it’s depth and lines.
The backing had to be put on and the rug had to be bound, and after long hours of hard work it was finally ready.
The finished piece is definitely a success.
The winner of the giveaway was THRILLED and we couldn’t be happier for her! Although, we are going to miss this unique and truly one-of-a-kind rug.
